Week 5 - Multiplication fun

Challenge 1 - Roll 2 dice - times the numbers together and write the  answer. Do this 10 times to practise your basic facts.
Challenge 2 - Set a timer. Roll 2 dice and times the numbers together and write the answers. Do this 10 times. How long did it take you?
Challenge 3 - Do Challenge 1 and try and beat your score!
 Tessellation Fun - Week 4
You were all given a piece of patterned paper in maths class. Your task is to create an interesting tessellation pattern on this! - Extra challenge: Create your own tessellation on your own paper!

Maths homework! - Week 3 Term 3

The answer is 21 - what is the question?

Use adding, subtracting and multiplication to come up with as many questions as you can!
e.g. 3 x 7 = 21

Number boggle!

How many ways can you make 20?  Use adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
The numbers must be linked! e.g. 10 + 8 + 2 = 20

Maths Quiz!

Click on the link below to take the maths quiz to practise your basic facts.

3 Times Tables!!

Learn these this week!!
Some activities to help you:
  • Use your flash cards
  • Write them out
  • Make up a song about them
  • Roll a dice and times the number by 3. How many times can you do this in a minute?
Go on the maths blog - click on multiplication and play the games

3 x 1 = 3                 3 x 2 = 6                3 x 3 = 9              3 x 4 = 12             3 x 5 = 15
3 x 6 = 18              3 x 7 = 21              3 x 8 = 24            3 x 9 = 27             3 x 10 = 30

 Basic facts challenges: Word challenge! a = 1  b=2  c=3  d=4  e=5  f=6  g=7  h=8  i=9  j=10  k=11  l=12  m=13  n=14  o=15  p=16  q=17 r=18  s=19  t=20  u=21  v=22  w=23  x=24  y=25  z=26
  1. Add up your name!  e.g.  anne =  1 + 14 + 14 + 5 = 34     2) Write 5 words and add them up!
3) Add up a spelling word    4) Use subtraction/adding to make a word that equals 10 and that equals 6

Week 4 - BASIC FACTS!
Basic facts you NEED to know off by heart:

  • Pairs to 10 and 20   e.g.  16 + 4     17 + 3     18 + 2     9 + 1      20 - 5
  • Doubles and halves   e.g.   8 + 8     18 - 9      4 + 4      20 - 10
  • Facts within 10 and 20  e.g.   12 + 3     14 + 5     18 - 3     17 - 5
  • Times tables -  2's, 5's and 10's and then 3's     e.g., 2 x 3    2 x 6     5 x 3

Basic facts need to be fast and instant recall! - You need to just KNOW them and not use your fingers or count on in your head.
Get an adult to time you!
Roll two dice and add these together. Complete this 20 times.
How fast could you do this?
Now try and beat your score!

Roll two dice and subtract the biggest number from the smallest. Complete this 20 times.
Record your time.
Beat your time!

Week 3 - home fun

Click on the link above to practise your times tables!

Term 2  - week 2

Term 2! - Week one

Number boggle! - How many ways can you make 20 using adding, subtracting and multiplication?
The numbers must be linked. So they need to be next to each other.  For example you can have
  7 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 1 = 20  but you can't have 10 + 7 + 3 because 10 is not next to 7.
Good luck!

Times table fun!

2 times tables - roll your dice. Add the total. Times the total by 2!
Remember your 2 times tables is just your doubles! - 2 groups

e.g., I rolled 6 and 7   6 + 7 = 13
13 x 2 =  13 +13 (2 groups of 13)
13 x 2 = 26

Do this ten times to practise your two times tables (doubling numbers).

Challenge - 3 times tables
Roll your dice and add the total. Now times the total by 3.

e.g., I rolled 6 and a 7 = 13
13 x 3 = 13 + 13 + 13 (3 groups of 13)
= 26 + 13 = 39

Set your score sheet out like this: (You can have any number of players)

Maths strategies - Stage 5

Basic facts practise! - home

Get someone to time you for a minute.
Roll your dice and subtract the biggest number from the smallest. Write down the total.
How many totals can you make in the minute?
Do this again and try and beat your score!

Home fun...

Activity 1 -  How many ways can you make 17 using addition, subtraction and timetables?

e.g., 9 + 8 = 17       6 + 6 = 12 + 5 = 17

Activity 2 -  Roll 1 dice and write down the number, then double the number!   e.g. 6 + 6 = 12.
Do this 10 times to practise your doubles.
Challenge - Use two dice. Roll two dice and add the total. Now double the total! e.g. 6 + 6 = 12
12 +12 = 24. Do this ten times to practise doubling higher numbers.

Use your dice to play 20!
Roll both  of your dice and add the score.
Get a friend to roll both dice and add their score.
Each person gets 3 turns. Once the 3 turns are finished add your final scores. The person closest to 20 wins!!

Maths activities to try at home!
Use your ten sided dice or the virtual dice on this blog below!
1) Roll your dice and add the total together. - How many totals can you write down in a minute?
Do this again and try and beat your first score!

2) Roll your dice and subtract the biggest number from the smallest to find a total. -  How many totals can you write down in a minute?
Do this again and try and beat your first score!

Week 4 maths homework (for my maths class)
Practising my basic facts!
You will need: 2 dice or you can use the virtual dice!

Roll your dice - add the totals together and then double the answer (times by 2)
Do this ten times - which total came up the most? Least?

Roll your dice - add the totals. Roll again and add the totals.
Now add the two totals!
Do this ten times - which total cam up the most? Least?

Make a bar graph at home!
